the debt ceiling and republicans are saying that there's not just enough time to work out a big deal. there's a heightened sense of urgency in washington to come up with a deal to raise the nation's credit limit. lawmakers are at a standoff over how to tackle the deficit and prevent the nation from defaulting on it debt. the major sticking point- taxes. president obama would cut the deficit by $4 trillion. to do that the president and the democrats are call for some tax increases. by closing tax loopholes for some businesses. a nonstarter for republicans. >> we're not going to raise taxes in the middle of this horrible economic situation. >> reporter: president obama told lawmakers last night he's prepared to put social security on the table but some democratic lawmakers say no way. >> house democrats aren't supporting any cuts or benefits for social security or medicare. >> reporter: warning of dire consequences of what would happen if it reaches the debt ceiling. president obama will hold a press conference later this morning and will once again meet with congressional leaders. officials

at the beach. they are dealing with a pretty big thunderstorm here. that one will not be effecting us tonight. as we head towards fireworks time it stays steamy. most spots based on the radar trend should stay dry. >>> thousands are packing into the inner harbor for a huge fireworks show tonight. of course security will be a top priority. abc 2 news christian schaffer is live in the thick of it. >> reporter: some 40,000 people expected to watch from the inner harbor tonight. security is going to be a main concern. that is why there will be several hundred city police officers here. some of them are wearing their uniforms. those are only four of them. i have seen at least a few dozen in the hour or so that we have been here. the focus is on safety. hundreds in plain clothes and in uniforms. last night there was a shooting in a parking garage just north of the inner harbor and in a spot where a lot of people are coming downtown to watch the show. the victim was shot in the chest but is expected to survive. police not releasing his name. police have been quick to point out that this was not som

back up close to 90, a mix of clouds and sun, generally dry, and as we saw tonight that big cluster of storms generally moving south of us because the focusing the boundary for the -- the front -- the stalled front that's the focusing point and it should stay south one more day. the showers that -- developed in western maryland fizzled out once they got into around frederick or so. hot, humid air out of the south and east. dryer weather trying to edge in. the boundary will hang out tomorrow and storms tend to go just south of that boundary. that means tomorrow a lot of this may stay -- down in southern maryland and back through virginia. as we work into wednesday it does look like a better chance for more active weather around you're state. overnight tonight, 67 or so we stay cloudy, warm and humid. tomorrow 90 or so, mostly sunny, less humid through the day, not a bad which to head back to work, a good weather day. tomorrow night the humidity comes back and income tax few days we have the chances for on and off showers and storms, unsettled outlook but typical for first full week o
